German company Owomo has developed a revolutionary solution for DIY camping and base camp setups. The company has introduced a series of plywood panels that can be used as lids for the commonly used gray Eurobox. These panels, along with accompanying accessories, can be interconnected like puzzle pieces to create basic furniture such as beds, tables, and lounge chairs. By combining a few Euroboxes with Owomo panels, campers can create a modular indoor/outdoor camper floor plan with ample portable cargo storage.
The market already offers various car-to-camper RV accessories, camper-in-a-box kits, modular in-vehicle beds, and other portable camping solutions. However, Owomo’s system stands out for its simplicity. It strongly resembles the modular German camper kit from a few years ago, the Cübes system by Camp It Simple. However, Owomo’s solution is based on the widely available cargo boxes commonly used in European camping and overlanding.
Each Owomo panel is designed as a snug-fitting lid for a 60 x 40-cm Eurobox. The rectangular base of the panel fits securely inside the box, providing a sturdy building block. The edges of the panels are designed like jigsaw puzzle pieces, allowing them to be securely joined to create flat surfaces. The height of the boxes does not matter as long as they are compatible with the desired configuration.
The versatility of the Owomo panels is impressive. They can be used to create a full-width sleeping platform for a cargo van, which can be easily topped with an inflatable or folding mattress. Additionally, the panels can be used to construct various styles of in-van and outdoor benches, side tables, desks, chairs, shelves, and even an outdoor bar using multiple stacked Euroboxes.
The design of the Owomo panels is reminiscent of the foam play mats commonly found in daycare centers and pediatrician waiting areas. However, Owomo’s panels are constructed from sturdy 1.8-cm-thick Beech plywood. Despite their lightweight appearance, each panel weighs approximately 3 kg, slightly more than the typical Eurobox.
Owomo offers both solid and perforated panels, with prices ranging from €59 to €69. The perforated panel features a central pull handle for easy removal, while the solid panel allows for the creation of DIY modules such as an inset sink or stove. Additionally, back supports are available for propping up panels to create comfortable seatbacks, priced at €49 per pair.
For filling out the interior of a full-size van like the VW Crafter or Mercedes Sprinter with a 205 x 125-cm sleeping platform, Owomo recommends using 10 panels. This would result in a total cost of €590 for the panels, not including the cost of the Euroboxes if they are not already owned. Owomo’s system also has commercial applications, allowing for the creation of workbenches using crates filled with tools.
Overall, Owomo’s innovative interlocking panels offer a simple and versatile solution for DIY camping furniture. With their modular design and easy-to-use interlocking system, they provide campers with endless possibilities for customizing their camper or base camp setup.
