The board, made by Corsair Longboards under MIT’s Sandbox Innovation Fund Program, has a two-piece laminated Canadian maple deck with a proprietary 6061 T-6 billet aluminum hinge in the middle and a chromoly steel locking mechanism.
To fold the board, the user simply needs to step on the tail, causing the nose to fly up. They can then grab the board by a handle on the nose and pull it back, allowing the rear end of the board to fold up and lock into place alongside the front. This one-handed process takes just a few seconds and provides a convenient solution for transportation and storage.
The Corsair F4U is not only practical but also packs a punch in terms of performance. The board is powered by two 600-watt motors that can reach a top speed of 30 mph (48 km/h). Its 5,200-mAh lithium-ion battery provides a range of 16 miles (26 km) on a single charge. The board comes equipped with polyurethane wheels, but users have the option to switch them out for different types if desired.
For those interested in backing the project, a pledge of $699 will secure a Corsair F4U electric longboard, while a pledge of $899 will also include a backpack for easier transportation. The planned retail prices for the board and backpack will be $1,049 and $1,249, respectively.
